Snack
- Students who are absent are given the same number of days to complete missed work (ex: absent 2 days = 2 days to make-up work once student returns to school)
- Work due the day of the absence is due when the student returns to school
- Parents may request same-day homework pick-up if request is made before 10:30 a.m. Work will be left in the front office for pick-up at your convenience.
- Much of what we do in class is very difficult or impossible to make-up at home (such as online or in class assessments, science experiments, technology projects, etc.), therefore regular attendance is encouraged whenever possible
- Parents are encouraged to request absent work ahead of time, especially for short-term absences due to illness or out-of-town situations. Please provide as much notice as possible
Birthday Celebrations
- Students may bring in store-bought, individually-wrapped treats to share
- Treats must be PEANUT-FREE and NUT-FREE
- Birthdays will be celebrated on the Friday of the student's birthday week (either at snack time or during Fun Friday time)
- Summer birthdays may be celebrated in August or May
Class Economy
- Our class will learn about economics by earning, saving, and spending CTS Cash, our classroom money.
- Part of our social studies curriculum focuses on economics, so our classroom economy will be a real-life application of earning, spending, saving, supply, demand, etc.
- Students can earn CTS Cash for such things as having all homework turned in, filling out planners correctly, getting parent signature on planner daily, earning 100% on assessments, etc.
- Students will be encouraged to save their CTS Cash for times when they are in situations where spending is necessary, such as for missing homework, no name papers, loss of supplies, bathroom use, etc.
Conferences
- Student-led conferences are scheduled for October (by appointment time)
- Open-house student-led conferences are also scheduled for March (no appointment time necessary)
- If you would like a conference or meeting at any time, please let me know
Contacting Mrs. Anderson
- Classroom XXX-XXX-XXXX (messages are checked after school and calls are returned within one school day)
- Email [email protected] (email is checked multiple times throughout the school day and replies are sent within one school day - email is the best way to reach me)
Friday Folders
- Friday Folders will come home at the end of the week
- Please review all contents and return the empty folder with your child on Monday
- Some work may have a “correct and return” stamp, a "complete and return" stamp, or have "redo" written across the top – please assist your child in correcting/completing/redoing this work to ensure that they master the content/material
- Assignments (classwork and homework) that are corrected/completed/redone and resubmitted will be reviewed and may earn additional points, depending on the original expectations (maximum of 79% will be issued for corrected/completed assignments)
- Assessments that are corrected/completed/redone are also reviewed but do not receive additional points, however, correcting/completing/redoing ensures understanding for when these concepts reappear in the future
Planners
- Students are given time at the beginning and end of the day to fill out their planner
- Their planner should look like my board (I always say “If I write it, you write it!”)
- Please check your child's planner daily to find out about homework and upcoming tests/quizzes
Snack
- Due to our early lunch time, students will be permitted to have an afternoon snack
- Snacks must be small, single-serve, and nutritious
- Snacks must not require utensils (such as pudding cups needing spoons) or extensive prep (such as an orange with the peel still on)
- Snacks also must be relatively “mess-free”, as we will be snacking during class and don’t want food on our work
- Good examples are small baggies of pretzels, grapes, raisins, a few crackers, etc.
- Not-so-good examples are chocolate-dipped granola bars that have melted in backpacks, powered donuts that powder all over the desk, and Cheetos/cheesy crackers that leave orange fingerprints all over
- Snacks that are messy, distracting to other students, or poor nutritional choices will not be permitted
- Our classroom is PEANUT-FREE and NUT-FREE - students may bring these items for lunch, which is eaten in the cafeteria, but snacks to be consumed in the class must not contain them
- Students are not permitted to share snacks
- Only water will be allowed in class
Homework Folders
Each student will be given a plastic homework pocket-folder. The right side will be labeled 'Homework - Bring Back' and the left side will be labeled 'For Parents - Keep'. Any papers in the Homework side will need to be completed at home and returned the next school day. Anything in the Parents side is for parents to review and keep. I will use this process to communicate with parents regularly! Friday's will be especially heavy on the Parent side, because I will aim to return all graded work on Friday's.

Morning Procedures
Each morning the students will have a set routine that will dictate how they enter the classroom and begin their day. These beginning moments of the day are crucial, and if not handled properly could result in the loss of up to one month of wasted school time per year (Wong & Wong, 2009). Both students and teachers are most effective when the students immediately begin working upon entering the classroom (Wong & Wong, 2009). Below will be the daily routine that I will establish on day one:

Both students and teachers are most effective when the students immediately begin working upon entering the classroom (Wong & Wong, 2009). Below will be the daily routine that I will establish on day one:
- First and foremost, I will greet all students as they enter the room. I will also expect them to greet me back. This will set the tone for the rest of the day.
- Students will enter the classroom calmly and quietly and keep their hands to them selves.
- Backpacks will be placed in the backpack area in each student’s designated spots. Students will take only their pencils, homework folder and agenda out of their backpack.
- Students will place their homework folder in the homework bin, pick up a copy of the bell work assignment that is located in the folder next to the homework bin, and then proceed to their seat.
- Students will quietly and individually complete the bell work assignment. If they finish early, they may free read (free read books will be kept at each student’s desk for occasions in which they finish assigned work early).
